I’m at my brother’s in Queensland, Australia for a visit. He’s on holidays so he’s “getting stuff done.” My brother is closer to 50 than 40. Neither of us wear glasses, but when I saw him squinting at the small print on an electronic device he was holding in his hand, I asked him whether he had reading glasses yet.
“No, I don’t need them. I just need more light.”
I laughed. “Yeah, me too.”
I’d noticed recently that my eyes take a longer time to focus, or the gaze stays “lazy” -not focusing until I tell them to. I never had to think about focusing my eyes before. But now, more often than not, I do.

“Tell your eyes to focus.” I tell him.
“Oh, ok.”
I’m more than a little surprised that he accepts my direction without some kind of cheeky comment. “Did it work?” I ask.
“Yeah, that worked”, he answers without any affect.
“So, it’s an extra step, but it’s good to know that your eyes listen to you, right?” Always the teacher.

I know that my body listens to directions I give it because I’ve been talking to it for the purpose of balance for many years. In addition, over the last decade, I have done my own home research, and have been told, through clients in hypnosis, by part of the mind that oversees this life, the part of the mind that is wise and has the answers to our questions, that the cells are conscious, listening (unless they are sick) and wise.

The times I have talked to my body directly, just like my brother telling his eyes to focus, have worked well. I have talked to my hypothalamus to stay hot flashes. I had a conversation with my uterus when, in the early 2000s, I went from having pain-free periods to painful ones (when I asked her what the pain was from, “she” told me matter-of-factly that it was the uterine wall mildly contracting, and I needed to be more self-nurturing). Daily, in meditation, as I prepare to sit, I ask my body to align itself -shoulders over hips, and it does.  I always say:

Where intention goes, energy flows. Where energy flows, biology goes.

Cell biologist Bruce Lipton‘s research has showed that cells are not only in communication with each other, but also in communication with a vast field of intelligence. Traditional textbooks are still teaching us that our cells are responding to programming from the genes. When we get sick, we often feel that it is something we have no control over. We say things like, “It runs in the family.” Or, “It’s on my mother’s side”, or  “I take after my mother.” The effect of being taught this falsehood that it makes us a victim of our circumstances and powerless to do anything about it. As a result, we have been believing that we can only be healed through an external answer; doctors, specialists, pharmaceuticals and invasive procedures. This has a detrimental effect on our well being. We put ourselves at risk for getting sicker from the medicines we are given. Remember, human beings have existed successfully without modern medicine for thousands and thousands of years.

We can adjust our own chemistry, but we have to do it through our consciousness and our perceptions of how we see the world. It’s easier to change your perceptions than it is to change your genes. When we recognize it is our beliefs that run the show, and we start emphasizing our beliefs and our psychology behind our health that is a self-empowering process.

– Bruce Lipton

Our subconscious beliefs are born out of the belief of separation. Like a wave believing it is separate from the ocean. One way they contribute to not working is the archetype we call the saboteur. Let’s pick the Universal  subconscious belief of, “I’m not good enough“. In spite of a very sensible conscious desire to succeed at school, in relationships, and at work, the subconscious makes sure that, “I’m not enough” is made true instead. It makes true what it thinks it is, so it will sabotage our success so it can be right. Procrastination, running late, missing the exit or the train, reading the map wrong, indecision, giving the wrong answer, forgetting to charge our phone so it goes dead and we can’t let our new love waiting know you got stuck in traffic are all effects of the subconscious making things happen to/for you. Subconscious programs are directly involved in creating our life.

The tricky thing is that we are not always aware of our beliefs. To use a computer as a metaphor, consider the body the computer hardware, the subconscious the operating system, and the conscious mind the programs we use to get our stuff done. The subconscious mind runs quietly in the background. It’s so quiet, we don’t realize what effects the subconscious mind has on our life. The beliefs that make up the subconscious mind contribute to all that is working and not working in our life circumstances.

What we need to do is get good at is making conscious the unconscious. According to Michigan State University Extension’s Stress Less with Mindfulness program, a modern person has 80,000 thoughts a day. 90 percent of these thoughts are ones we have had before, and 80 percent of these are negative. Our unconscious belief patterns are not too hard to find. They are lived out through how we feel, how we act and our habits. Our outer world is determined by the thoughts we are believing. So try this. Ask yourself:

  1. What in my direct world is not working? How are things going in terms of my work? My finances? My romantic relationship? My family relationships? Get it down on paper.
  2. What thoughts am I having about each of the categories that aren’t working? Get those thoughts down on paper. E.g., “I can’t do that”, “She doesn’t get me”, “I can’t afford it.”
  3. Make time for yourself to turn the thoughts around. Here are some methods I have used that work: Byron Katie’s The Work), Practice reaching for a better feeling thought with the law of allowing as taught by Abraham-Hicks), or ask your own Infinite Wisdom with a Know Thyself Session.

Keeping in mind that the physical body is a collection of 37-50 trillion cells, and that the word, “I” actually refers to the collective consciousness of all the body’s cells along with the subconscious and the conscious mind, what we come to realize is that our cells are listening to what we are saying, whether the messages we are broadcasting are conscious or unconscious.

In order to make real positive change in our life we need to change the programming of the subconscious and we need to commit to being the leader of our life and cells. When we were under the age of seven, our minds were like a sponge. We were naturally very open to suggestions regardless of whether these suggestions, or affirmations, are beneficial or harmful. A parent (innocently) telling her kid after she got paint on her dress; “Oh! that wasn’t very smart! I told you not to get it dirty before the party.” Or, the good ol’ English saying that has slithered in the psyche of children for over 400 years giving birth, “Children should be seen and not heard” rendering countless number of adults who can’t speak up, set boundaries, can’t process emotions, say what they need or want, who end up communicating by having tantrums or shutting down.

Our beliefs affect our biology. A life time of not speaking up, setting boundaries, letting emotions go, nor communicating what we want or need shows up in the body. The cells, listening to your inner screams, will use the body to set a boundary for you. It will cut you off by creating chronic or acute conditions, ailments and accidents. Literally, the cells shut down, they stop listening and as a result go maverick. In addition, research shows that stressful thoughts weaken the immune system which makes the body susceptible to disease. We can only catch something from the environment if our immune system is suppressed. Stress, including our thinking, is an immune suppressor. It becomes clear when we look at it, that our subconscious thoughts determine our reality.

Every Cell in Your Body is Listening to You

[Quantum Healing Hypnosis Session – September 2013]
Tom Taylor, my client, goes very deep into trance. In this session we had a conversation, with “Uncle Pat”, an uncle who had passed away when Tom was very young. In the session, Uncle Pat was telling us that we are more powerful than we thing we are, that instead of being victims to our biology, we can play God.

Listen to the short excerpt here. It’s just a little over 1 minute (Time stamp: 7:05 to 8:20)

Transcript:

“If you only knew. People here think that they pray to a God. Every cell in your body can hear you talk. You talk to the cell, each cell and every cell. You would be amazed at what you can overcome. The cells will listen. They want to, are willing to, work for you. Everything is a copy of everything which equals love.

Cells will do a dance, create and cure. Cancers. Hair loss. Whatever your ailment is. All you have to do is ask. Your body wishes you would open up to your cells also. Cells drive the body. Don’t ignore them. You ignore them, they’ll keep doing what you do, going through life aimlessly. They don’t want that. Open up to everything. Not just cells. The air, the breeze, trees…”

How to Talk to Your Body

The main ingredient to talking to our body is listening. The second is realizing that there is a greater intelligence than the personality mind that has the body working perfectly and is doing its best to stay balanced given the environment its been given (this includes our thinking). What is the God of my understanding thinking that I’m not thinking

Let’s try:
You may do this exercise as a writing meditation, where you go inside and then with a soft gaze open your eyes to write down the words or impressions you receive.

Sit comfortably or lay down.
Let the body melt into the support of the chair or the bed.
Let your eye lids rest over your eyes -no strain.
Sweep the mind clear of thoughts
Move your attention to the part of the body that is calling for your attention (pain, pressure, the site of a condition or ailment)
Keep your mind on this part of your body, feeling what it actually feels like.
Then say in your mind, “Hello [area of the body], how are you today?”
Listen for the answer. You may hear words or get a sound. You may get a feeling or a knowing, or you might feel physical sensation like a gurgle, a tingle, even a little jab. If you don’t hear words or get a knowing, ask yourself, “What feels right?”
Next ask, “What is the message this [pain, discomfort, condition] is telling me? What do I need to know?”
Listen for the answer.
Ask, “What do you need me to [think, do, be] for you to be happy, healthy and in your optimal state of wellbeing?”
Listen.
Ask, “What do I need to [understand, know, realize, believe] in order for us to be on the other side of it?]
Use the Ho’oponopono Prayer. Say, “I love you. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.”
Finally, ask for a final message, “What final message do you have for me that you want me to know? I’m listening now.
Listen.

It’s time NOW to start taking responsibility for our own health and healing. Clean up unconscious beliefs (apparent through your thoughts and current reality), taking care of the body by eating well -organic, whole foods, drinking water and herbal teas, regular moderate exercise, meditation and mindfulness practices -paying attention to your body and your thoughts, and active self-enquiry.

Feel free to share what you learn when you talk to your cells and your body. I’d love to hear. If you need help communicating with your body, we can set up an online session.
